SafeList Launches Free YouTube Curator That Removes the Algorithm for Kids

The Israeli app lets parents hand-pick the videos their children can watch - with no autoplay, no recommendation feed, and no daily "just one more" battle.

ISRAEL - SafeList, a free tool for managing children's YouTube viewing, has launched its full version, enabling parents to curate every video their child can access - while removing YouTube's recommendation algorithm and autoplay entirely. Unlike existing parental-control apps, SafeList doesn't only limit screen time; it changes the viewing experience itself.

The problem the product solves is familiar to most parents: when a video ends, YouTube starts the next one automatically. Alongside autoplay, the recommendation algorithm always surfaces new content - turning every potential stopping point into the start of a fight. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends up to one hour per day of high-quality content for children aged 2โ€“5, but YouTube's mechanisms are engineered to extend watch time, not limit it.

"The problem was never the video - it was what happens the moment it ends. We eliminated that moment entirely."

How it works

Parents sign in once with their Google account and manually curate videos - by searching, pasting a link, or importing an entire playlist. The child sees the curated list in shuffled order, with nothing pushing them to keep watching. When a video ends - nothing happens.

Key features
  • No recommendation algorithm, no autoplay
  • Parent curates every video - search, link, or playlist import
  • Daily screen-time limit, blocked hours, and a time bonus
  • Instant pause button for the parent
  • Works in any browser and on Android, in Hebrew and English
  • Free to use; no app download required

The difference from YouTube Kids

YouTube Kids filters inappropriate content - but uses the same algorithm and the same autoplay as regular YouTube. SafeList doesn't filter; it replaces: the parent decides what appears, and the algorithm plays no part.

Availability and pricing

SafeList is available now at safelist.online. Sign in with an existing Google account, no download required. The app is free to use; an optional monthly subscription is available for anyone who wants to support the project, but it is never required.

About SafeList

SafeList is an Israeli app created by parents, for parents. The goal: to give parents real control over what their children watch on YouTube - not by blocking, but by curating.
